ROAD UPDATES

Latest Update: Thursday 27 June, 2 pm

ROADS CLOSED:

  • Herrick St (Taylors Slab, Ongaonga)  - CLOSED. Detour via SH50 and Bridge St.
  • Hiranui Rd (between Pōrangahau Rd & Te Awa Rd) - CLOSED.
Caution:

Please drive with care as slips on the following roads:

  • Cheviot Rd
  • Gibraltar Rd
  • River Rd
  • Mangatarata Rd 
  • Mc Hardy Pl (Blackhead Road) - (debris on Ford) 
  • Awahiwi Rd 
  • Ngahape Rd (Dropout RP 5000)
  • Elsthorpe Rd (between St. Lawrence Rd & Atua Road) - OPEN to one lane due to flooding .
STATE HIGHWAYS:

Several reports of large potholes on the State Highway network and surface flooding.

ROADING UPDATES

Please find below details of those roads and bridges in the district where access is currently restricted or caution advised due to general damage, maintenance requirements and the devastating effects of Cyclone Gabrielle. Our Land and Transport Team together with our post-cyclone Road to Recovery team are working hard to prioritise and address all damage on the roading network and thank you for your patience and support as we manage the workload.

  • Harker Street: CLOSED at the rail underpass. No through access due to cyclone damage to the protective structure. Access via SH2/Victoria Street.
  • Te Uri Road: CLOSED at 17 km from Mangaorapa Road due to cyclone damage affecting the road. No through access.
  • Walker Road: CLOSED due to cyclone damage to road
  • Patangata Bridge: TEMPORARY CLOSURE on Tuesday 18 June, 11 am-2 pm. Temporary 3,500 kg weight restriction will apply daily from Thursday 20 June, from 10 am-2 pm, for up to three weeks while repairs to bridge are completed. At all other times, the current 44,000kg weight restriction applies.

CAUTION

  • Tourere Road: Resident access only; 3,500 kg restriction. Multiple dropouts due to cyclone damage
  • Makaramu Bridge (bridge to Te Paerahi/Pōrangahau Beach): Class 1 vehicles (46,000 kg) and a speed restriction of 50 km.
