EIT Public Lecture: Reconnecting Through Research

Reconnecting through Research: A series of free public lectures by senior academic staff of EIT.

The Research and Innovation Centre (RIC) of EIT, Hawke’s Bay’s only major tertiary education provider, is proud to continue a series of public lectures throughout 2024. These cover six areas of research of deep relevance to our region. We are especially pleased to be bringing these presentations to the Century Theatre at the MTG, right in the heart of Napier City.

In early August we have Associate Professor Emily Nelson (School of Education and Social Science). She will speak on her 'Learning in Nature' research, which began life as a developmental evaluation of the establishment of EIT’s Ōtātara Outdoor Learning Centre and was conducted jointly by Dr Nelson and Professor Bronwen Cowie, University of Waikato.

The centre promotes biodiversity management, connection to nature and sustainable futures and was sponsored by the Air NZ Environment Trust and spearheaded by Ngāti Pārau, Hawke’s Bay Regional Council and the Department of Conservation.

Professor Nelson will be followed by Professor Annemarie Gillies (Te Kura i Awarua Rangahau Māori Research Centre), and Associate Professor Pii-Tuulia Nikula (School of Business). The lectures cover research ranging from health and wellbeing, through IT and AI, to locally and globally sustainable futures.
Each of the lectures will be followed by refreshments and opportunities for networking and further discussion with the presenters.

Emily’s session will be chaired by Professor Kay Morris Matthews. Following a long academic career, most recently as Research Professor at EIT, Kay is now Professor Emerita there, as well as Associate Research Curator at the MTG Hawke's Bay.
