Bazurka + Ish at The Urban Winery

Bazurka + Ish at The Urban Winery

Join us at The Urban Winery for an intimate evening of folk and traditional music from two of New Zealand's best and brightest world/folk bands. Local funky folk collective Ish will be joined by Wellington Balkan music legends Bazurka for a very special one off concert.

Ish was created by Dana Parkhill, herself representative of the band's startling eclecticism. A classical flautist who has belly-danced her way through Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco, Ish is the band she has dreamed of for years. Their repertoire takes in Bulgaria, Sweden, Moldova, Ireland, Brittany, Barcelona and beyond, layered with exuberant Klezmer, cool Latin Cumbia and original tunes by or created for the band.

Bazurka are a seven piece Balkan fusion ensemble. Forged in the fires of the cultural melting pot that is Newtown, and tempered by passion, heartache, and a dash of madness, their music is bold, brooding, and beautiful. They’ll make you laugh, they’ll make you cry, they’ll make you dance like your life depended on it.

Those under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent.
The Urban Winery is wheelchair accessible.
