Roading Updates

We aim to keep you updated on what's going on across our 1,265 km roading network, including all current road works and restrictions, and weather events impacting our roads.

Road maintenance repairs

Mangakuri Road – surface water channels 
Kahuranaki and Kairahau roads – stabilising repairs 
Elsthorpe Road - Slips
Te Uri, Old Hill, Wallingford, Epae, Ugly Hill, Ngawaka, Ngahape, McKenzie, Rotohiwi, Caldwell roads – maintenance grading and metalling
Waipukurau township – sweeping 

FletchersCrossingCyclone recovery repairs

Fletchers Crossing Bridge – rock and aggregate are being placed to reinstate the abutment that was washed away during Cyclone Gabrielle. Our contractors are working hard to reinstate this vital connection for the new year.  
Wimbledon Road 1.3 – landslide restabilisation. Stop go and traffic lights will ensure our contractors can complete this work safely by June 2025.
Titoki Bridge – cyclone repairs to strengthen foundations and replace bridge deck at one end.

Please note that the above works may change due to contractor availability and weather conditions. If you have any issues on the roads or questions, please call us anytime on 06 857 8060.

Please find below details of those roads and bridges in the district where access is currently restricted or caution advised due to general damage, maintenance requirements and the effects of Cyclone Gabrielle. Our Land Transport and Recovery teams are on it every day, prioritising and addressing damage to the roading network. We thank you for your patience and support as we manage the workload.

Roads currently affected:

  • Te Uri Road: CLOSED at 17 km from Mangaorapa Road due to cyclone damage. No through access.
  • Walker Road: CLOSED due to cyclone damage.
  • Tourere Road: Resident access only; 3,500 kg restriction. Multiple dropouts due to cyclone damage.
  • Kashmir Road: CLOSED until June 2025. Forest 360 harvesting pines. See details here
