You could get up to $790 off your rates bill

The Rates Rebate Scheme is a form of central government assistance targeted at giving low-income households a helping hand when paying their rates. If you are receiving NZ Superannuation, WINZ benefits or your combined income is within a certain threshold (see table below), then you may be entitled to a Rates Rebate of up to $790! You must be living at the property and be the legal ratepayer on 1 July. 

Applying for a Rate Rebate

A Rates Rebate application form is available online here or from The Knowledge and Learning Hub - Te Huinga Wai (Bogle Brothers Esplanade, Waipukurau), Waipawa Library and the Council office in Waipawa. To find out if you qualify, call the Rates team on 06 857 7738 and they will be able to tell you if you are eligible. The rebate will be credited to your rates account or if you have already paid, you will receive a refund.

When applying for a Rates Rebate you will need the following information:

• Your District rates notice (Hawke's Bay Regional Council rates may also be included)
• Details of your income (before tax) for the previous tax year
• Proof of you partner/joint homeowner's income if he/she lives with you
