Cafes, Restaurants and Takeaways

If you want to open a cafe, restaurant or takeaway business in Central Hawke's Bay, you must have a current food registration certificate.

You must have a food registration certificate to sell food in Central Hawke's Bay if you are a:

  • restaurant, cafe or takeaway shop.
  • shop that sells food, such as a dairy or an online store.
  • food stall or food truck.
  • food manufacturer and/or grower, such as a brewer or honey producer.
  • transport business that handles food.

To apply for a food registration certificate, you must have a food control plan or national programme. These have been created by MPI and are designed to make sure the food you sell is safe for consumers.

To work out which plan applies to you, use MPI's 'Food Safety Rules' tool.

Apply here if you are registering using a template food control plan.

We can register and verify your business.

If you are applying for a national programme, we can not verify your business.

Click here to find a list of recognised verifiers for national programmes. You will need to have:

  • your NZ business number and a copy of your certificate of incorporation, if your business is a limited liability company.
  • a confirmation letter from your national programme verifier.
Once you have a recognised verifier, apply for your registration certificate here.
