After many months of hard work, the 1.1-kilometre-long access track to Waipukurau’s new central reservoir and platform is now complete. Contractor Fulton Hogan has disestablished from site, leaving the 2,600 m2 platform ready and able to house two 3ML reservoirs in the future, supplying water by gravity to Waipukurau and Waipawa should the need arise. To enable construction of this critical infrastructure, 35,000 m3 of soil was moved; 1,700 m3 of gravel was brought in to form the base and the 285 m3 running course; and ten culverts were installed along the track to allow for drainage, along with swales and open drains.
The Central Reservoir Access Track and Platform is an integral subproject in Council’s work to future-proof Waipukurau’s drinking water network by adding a second water supply, thereby increasing the resilience of water supply, improving redundancy and compliance, and supporting growth in the district.
