Lower Abbotsford Road
The programmed work to renew the water main that runs from the borefield on Tikokino Road to our reservoirs on Abbotsford Road is now 95% completed. The water mains from Tikokino Road past the Waipawa transfer station towards Waipawa, and up into Abbotsford Road along to the Matthew Street intersection, have been installed and contractors are working towards completing patches of chip sealing in the roading network.
Pressure testing of this new main has been completed and the site has been closed until we can return for the final stage of this work, which will include disinfection of the water main and connecting to other stages of work feeding to the reservoir.
Council is working with stakeholders to complete this project, which will improve resilience on the Waipawa water supply network.
This vital water renewal project addresses the challenges posed by the aged infrastructure on the Waipawa and Otāne water supply network, specifically upgrading old, critical assets and servicing planned future growth in the area.
We’ve started putting a new water main pipe into Waipukurau's Francis Drake Street as part of our #thebigwaterstory.
This project involves installing 470 metres of polyethylene (PE) pipe, 445 metres of water rider main and 40 lateral connections (with Acuflo manifolds on each lateral) to the water pipe network.
Currently the water pipe network servicing Francis Drake Street requires regular flushing (three times each week) and maintenance work, costing the council about $14,500 each year.

The team began working on site in July 2022 and continues to work with stakeholders to complete the project.
We expect the new road to be opened in 2023.
This date allows a large contingency for weather delays, due to the nature of the work and the project being completed during the winter months. This may see the project completed sooner should we have favourable conditions.
Yes, contractors will continue to ensure all areas are left safe and tidy. All work should be within the fenced areas.
Generally, no. The majority of the work will be completed alongside the single lane access; however, there may be some increased heavy equipment movement during the works.
There will be some noise due to moving vehicles and equipment operation. The impact of noise on the community will be kept to a minimum and within business hours.
The contractors are permitted to work on-site from 7.00 am to 6.00 pm, Monday to Saturday.
No work other than emergency or maintenance work will be undertaken on Sundays and Public Holidays without prior approval by Council.
