Jordon has been on a journey of discovery over the past 10 months and now has found a place at Craigmore orchard. Jordan left Central Hawke’s Bay College last year at the end of year 13 not sure what he wanted to do. “I had plans to find employment but it wasn’t easy. I tried getting help from family then Jobs in Central Hawke’s Bay contacted me about a course.” Jordon completed a pilot work ready programme at EIT in November, joined the gym, got his CV sorted and applied for a few jobs but was unsuccessful. “I struggled to find a job which led to me staying up late and gaming, I thought it was fun for a while but soon the buzz wore off.”
Jordon registered as a MSD jobseeker, completed a defensive driving programme, and then interviewed for Tu Te Wana - a 16 week work ready programme based at Craigmore orchard. Jordon enjoyed working outdoors and learning on the job. “It felt really good to graduate. I then got a 6-week contract with Craigmore. I’ve now just signed up till Christmas.”
Jordon shares a message for fellow youth, “Words of wisdom are turn up on time, every day, good attitude, good work ethic and good communication.” Jordon was grateful for the support he has received “You guys did a pretty awesome job to be honest, it’s a two-way street I’ve got to put the work in you guys put the work in and things work out pretty well.” We wish Jordon all the best on his new work journey.
