Local forestry business, HB Treeworks, finds a great match through Jobs in Central Hawke’s Bay employment support.
Bryan from HB Treeworks read about the Jobs in Central Hawke’s Bay initiative through the CHB Mail, his wife Diane visited the Mobile Employment Hub when it was stationed in Ongaonga to learn more. Discussing their needs with Jono in the Hub, led to connecting with our local Ministry of Social Development (MSD) and their Mana in Mahi apprentice support package, and assisted HB Treeworks with taking on a new apprentice.
Visiting the Mobile Employment Hub also proved a step in the right direction for Carlos. Last year, having participated in the CHB College Gateway programme, he gained forestry work experience which reinforced his passion for the forestry industry. He left school early in pursuit of full-time employment and started casual work in a local workshop, a stepping stone in his career journey. His visit and interaction with the Jobs in Central Hawke’s Bay team turned out to be a career game changer, connecting him with his dream job as HB Treeworks new apprentice.
Carlos – “I got my first chainsaw when I was 12, I’ve always done firewood with my family, every weekend. I’ve always wanted to work in forestry, now I’ve got the job, it’s mean! I still wake up every morning wanting to come to work!”
HB Treeworks is a tight team and Carlos fitted right in. “That’s huge for us. That we work together as a team.” Bryan.
