All of the grants are contestable so the success of your application will depend on how well your project fits with the criteria, the priority of the type of project compared with the others, and the grants money available for allocation.

All of the grants are contestable so the success of your application will depend on how well your project fits with the criteria, the priority of the type of project compared with the others, and the grants money available for allocation.
Successful recipients of council grants or funding will receive written confirmation. Upon completion of the project the applicant will need to account for how they have spent funds and share what they have achieved and learnt.

Smarty Grants is an online portal which offers grant makers the opportunity for more efficient, effective and transparent management of grants from application to accountability.
From July 2022 all applications to funds managed by the Central Hawke's Bay District Council will be managed via the Smarty Grants Online Grants Portal.

Hawke's Bay Funding is a local service that lists all available funding opportunities across Hawke’s Bay. There are many funding organisations around Hawke’s Bay that support charitable organisations in their efforts to work with and strengthen our communities.

Central Hawke’s Bay District Council (Council) through its Environmental and Sustainability Strategy (the Strategy) has set an intent and direction to more purposefully control its impact on the environment and to be a leader in promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly practice in Central Hawke’s Bay. Through project THRIVE, residents voiced a want to protect and enhance the place they call home in Central Hawke’s Bay. The Strategy provides direction and guidance as to how Council will play its part and support others to play theirs including through the provision of funding.

The fund is available for distribution to local groups, or individuals for the funding of local arts projects and activities.

About the Scheme
The Community Voluntary Organisation Support (CVOS) Fund is available to community based voluntary non-profit organisations domiciled in Central Hawke’s Bay.
It is made up of two categories –
Category 1 - For funding to support Voluntary Organisations seeking grants for New Community Initiatives. Category 1 funding is for Community Groups who have not received funding from CVOS, or the Community Initiatives Fund previously, or from groups who have received funding but are applying for a new project.

Category 2 – For ongoing support to existing community groups who provide community services to all of Central Hawke’s Bay.

The Community Pride & Vibrancy fund seeks to support community opportunities to create pride and vibrancy in Central Hawke’s Bay. The fund supports projects that are an activity, programme or development that will occur in a public space and promotes our community to THRIVE.
Applications for the Community Pride & Vibrancy fund are open and may be submitted at any time by logging into your Smarty Grants account via our online Grants Portal. Applications must be submitted at least one month before the planned start date of your activity, event or project.
Successful applications will result in outcomes that support our communities identity, attract people’s interest, inspire and engage people and overall, contribute to a sense of community. Applications to the fund may not always be monetary and could include the provision of material, labour or other support.

By resolution of the elected council, this fund may increase or decrease. Central Hawke’s Bay District Councils financial year is 1 July – 30 June.

The Eric Tate Scholarship was established in 1984 by Mr Eric Tate (now deceased) of Napier and formerly a resident of Waipawa.
The scholarship shall be awarded only to students who normally reside in the area served by the former Waipawa District High School and the townships of Ongaonga, Tikokino and Otane, and who have spent the greater part of their secondary education (the decision of the Trustees on this requirement to be final) at Central Hawke's Bay College.
The scholarships shall be awarded to students to assist them in pursuing a full time course of tertiary education.
Each scholarship awarded initially for a period of one year and may be extended to a maximum of two years at the discretion for the trustees if the scholarship holder achieves satisfactory academic results in their first year of study.

The Waipawa Building Society Scholarship Trust was established in 1990 by the Waipawa County Permanent Building and Investment Society and is administered by the Central Hawke’s Bay District Council as ‘Custodian Trustee’.
The scholarship is up to the value of $1000 and awarded for tertiary education in New Zealand of any person or persons whose place of residence is within the Central Hawke’s Bay District.

The Rural Travel Fund has been developed to support the participation in sport by young people living in rural communities.
Sport New Zealand have outlined 4 key priorities for rural communities:
The rural travel fund is designed to help subsidise travel for junior teams participating in local sport competition.
Application for the Rural Travel Fund is open to rural sports clubs and rural school teams with young people aged between 5 and 18 years who require subsidies to assist with transport expenses to local sporting competitions.
