Building stronger community partnerships in Central Hawke’s Bay

More than 150 people attended the Connecting Central Hawke’s Bay event in Waipawa last night, with representation from agencies such as the Ministry of Social Development, Emergency Services, Safer Central Hawke’s Bay partner agencies and other community organisations.

It was the first time that an event of this scale has brought so many community groups and agencies together, with the common purpose of boosting resilient and strong local partnerships through effective communication. Attendees worked together to develop communication and collaboration skills, to support community cohesion and improved partnerships.

Central Hawke’s Bay has unique social and economic challenges, requiring the Council, community, and government agencies to work effectively together and adopt smarter approaches to champion excellence across all sectors of the community. 

The event was a catalyst to build a common understanding of people and their communication styles across organisations, to ensure they are well placed to appropriately respond to the challenges and opportunities the District faces, to support a thriving Central Hawke’s Bay for today and the future. 

Facilitated by Amy Scott of ‘Get Dotted’, the event focussed on a person’s four communication styles and how a person’s natural communication style may build or break relationships – whether at work, in the community or home.

“The event was a real milestone in the successful development of our community”, says Councillor Kelly Annand, Chair of the Community Development Committee. 

Tonight was about caring for those carers in our community – our confidence and understanding of each other enables us to better support not only those in need, but each other.

Funded with the support of the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council Emergency Management Group, the event has achieved great things in building the District’s community resilience and understanding.
