Central Hawke’s Bay District Council, is working in partnership with Hawke’s Bay Airport to deliver a month long pop-up showcase of Central Hawke’s Bay to visitors at the new arrivals lounge at Hawke’s Bay Airport.
The Central Hawke’s Bay pop-up runs from 17 May to 15 June and features iconic locations and attractions and visitor information, giving a small taste of what Central Hawke’s Bay has to offer. Visitors to the airport can take part in regular tasting events on Fridays and Saturday’s with Central Hawke’s Bay producers on site, including Junction Wines, Kanapu Hemp Oil and the Drink Co. Kombucha. The aim is to showcase Central Hawke’s Bay to visitors and locals returning home to Hawke’s Bay, so when they next visit the region or plan a holiday, they may choose to venture a little further South to experience a special part of New Zealand in Central Hawke’s Bay.
Central Hawke’s Bay is a thriving district and is experiencing a rapid growth in tourism, with over 15% growth in visitor spend over the last 12 months to January 2019. At this current rate Central Hawke’s Bay visitor spend is growing faster than the rest of Hawke’s Bay having had a total spend of $36.8m in the last 12 months, up 15.1% from $31.9m from the previous year.
Mayor of Central Hawkes Bay, Alex Walker says: “We love our beautiful district and we’re excited to share it with other kiwis and visitors alike. We are largely undiscovered and offer visitors stunning natural landscapes and beautiful beaches, to local culture and specialist food and wine producers.
“The growth of Central Hawke’s Bay tourism is a reflection of how well the partnership between Hawke’s Bay Tourism and Central Hawke’s Bay District Council is working.”
