One of the more prominent features of living in Central Hawke's Bay each Summer is the introduction of water restrictions.
Water restrictions are introduced most years before Christmas and the timing depends on such factors as river flows and pump station pumping hours.
The first level of restriction is an implementation of our Water Conservation and Education Strategy. As a council, we do this, as a matter of course, throughout the year.
The second level of restriction is the one we had introduced just recently throughout the district and that is a sprinkler ban, where watering of gardens is limited to hand held hoses only on odd and even days of the week.
The third level of restriction is a total water ban which means that only domestic use of water is permitted. Under these restrictions, any type of watering gardens, washing vehicles, houses, boats or filling of tanks or pools , is not permitted.
Conserve Water. (Voluntary action to conserve water, discretionary use such as the use of sprinklers, washing cars permitted)
Sprinkler Ban (Hand held hoses can be used on alternate days)
Total Ban (Total ban on all outdoor water use. No sprinklers or hand held hosing)
