Severe Thunderstorm watch in place 

MetService has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch till 8pm tonight for the northern and central North Island. Brace for scattered thunderstorms bringing heavy rain and the potential for localized downpours over 25mm/h.
Areas like Central and Southern Hawkes Bay and the Tararua District are at higher risk between 1pm and 8pm today. Rainfall rates could reach 25-40mm/h, leading to possible flooding, especially in low-lying spots.
