Young Adults
The libraries have separate Young Adult collections. These include specifically collected books for ages 12-19 which have subjects and content relevant to todays youth. There is also a growing Graphic Novel collection
Newspapers
The libraries hold the Dominion, Hawke's Bay Today and the CHB Mail.
Maori Collection/Kohikohinga Maori
Waipukurau Library has a Maori Collection of approx 250 books that have been assembled in one specific area to make them easily available to borrowers. The information covers a wide range of non-fiction topics, from Maori history to folklore, and arts and crafts. The area where the collection is held are identified by three kete, which symbolize the baskets of knowledge, and were made and gifted by weavers from the the Waipukurau Community Marae. The collection was unveiled in August 2003 by Ahi Robertson.
Waipawa's Maori Collection, established November 1998, is easily accessible in its own area in the non-fiction section.
Both libraries hold a wide selection of Te Reo readers in the childrens sections.
Regional Large Print Collection
This is a shared service for all public libraries between the Gisborne and Tararua Districts. The regional collection circulates on an 6 monthly rotation, and supplements the existing large print books in each library.
The Lions Collection
This growing collection of early readers generously funded by the combined Lions groups of Central Hawke's Bay provides a selection of books which help to form a bridge for young readers from picture books through to chapter books. This is a very important part of the children's collection and parents and children are encouraged to come in and browse through the titles.
