Are you prepared at home?

Having come through the 1931 earthquake and its aftermath, Hawke's Bay knows what the consequences of a major disaster can mean to a community. Such events can happen at any time. Being prepared can make a significant difference - it reduces the impacts and helps us to manage in such situations.

Awareness and preparation are vital for coping with an unexpected disaster or emergency.

Household survival plans and disaster survival kits are empowering tools. They allow us to be better prepared and make us more self-sufficient when faced with difficult circumstances.

Household Survival Plan

  • Agree on ways for getting in touch with family members and put in place plans for reuniting.
  • Arrange for authorised people to collect your children from school.
  • Provide the school with a list of these people
  • Establish a meeting place should your house become unusable or if family members are separated.
