Peel St - Road & Footpath Reconstruction

Peel St - Road & Footpath Reconstruction

On Monday 16 April 2018 work will begin on Peel St between Herbert St and Northumberland St. This project will last approx. 9 weeks depending on weather.

During the project the water main will be also be replaced and the footpath moved on the corner of Peel and Herbert St to allow for safer access on to Herbert St.

This will avoid the potential of having to interrupt service over the next couple of years to replace the water main.

Stage 1: Monday 16 April - work will begin on the northern side of Peel St. The road will be open (two lane traffic) however there will be no car parking available on either side for the duration of the works (approx. 4 weeks). Cones will be in place.

Stage 2: Work is estimated to begin from Monday 14 May. Peel St will be CLOSED TO TRAFFIC during the works (for approx. 4 weeks) except to those requiring access to the businesses along the street while the road is being rebuilt. Detours will be in place to guide traffic around the site.

The full road closure will shorten the project timeframe and minimise interruption to the business owners and costs to the project.

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Contact and discussions with the directly impacted business has taken place and will continue on a regular basis to ensure the impact to these businesses is minimised.

We apologise for any inconvenience this project may cause.
