Update on Waipukurau Wastewater Treatment Plant & Odour Issue
Good Morning All
Thank you to those who attended the public meeting last week.
We recognise your continued frustration and want to assure you this work is a priority.
A deodoriser misting system is being installed next to the wastewater ponds between the ponds and Mt Herbert Road. We expect that by next Friday (15th) the deodoriser will be intercepting and neutralising the smells. You will see the poles being installed this week and the system itself being installed next week.
We are expecting two more aerators to arrive in the early New Year and are installing the extra electrical cabling for this before Christmas. We are told that the answer to the smell is more aeration in the stormwater pond, and this will add to the existing aeration. The large portable aerator is being modified today and will be running from tomorrow to inject more oxygen into the stormwater balancing pond.
In addition to this Council is continuing to explore long term solutions to our compliance concerns to the Wastewater Treatment Plant including other odour sources around the District.
We would appreciate if you could continue submitting your odour notices. If at any time you would like to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact Council.
