GIS Officer

Central Hawke’s Bay District Council is looking for a motivated, well organised and customer focused person to fill this full time role within our Technical Services department based at Waipawa.

This position is required to provide a high level of specialised-technical support to the Councils, specifically in the areas of the Second Generation the District Plan and development of Council internal/external Geographical Information System.  In addition the position will also provide support when required with the administration, development and day-to-day maintenance of the Council’s corporate geospatial databases and systems.

We’re looking for an individual who has:

  • Previous experience with Professional MapInfo, Open Source (QGIS) or similar GIS mapping software and SQL databases
  • A high degree of computer operational competency
  • Working knowledge of raster and vector graphic software
  • Working knowledge of internet server based software
  • The ability to create a wide range of both electronic and printed maps
  • The ability to think laterally and apply a logical approach to the development of GIS
  • A customer orientated approach
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
